“Avicenna” Clinic in Novosibirsk

Nowadays “Avicenna” Clinic in Novosibirsk with total floor area of 300 m2 is the leader of regional private medical market.

The Clinic consists of several out-patient departments in different parts of the city, obstetrics department, department of surgery , in-patient clinic and diagnostic department with MRI, CT and  ultrasound scanners, Х-ray devices and mammography unit.

In 2012 shareholder of the business set a goal to prepare clinic for the selling transaction in 2014. The following Key Success Indicators were chosen:

  • 20 % income increase during 2014;
  • at least 1,5 times EBITDA increase during 2014 with EBITDA Margin increase up to 15% ( from current 9%.)

In 2013 we have successfully performed activities aimed to change motivation among medical personnel. We have also conducted analysis of the work of different departments and doctor`s work within one department. Besides, we have analyzed work with return visits to the doctor. Activities aimed to increase income and EBITDA were also conducted with the following results:

- 25% increase of the revenue for the year;

- 2,5 times EBITDA increase, with EBITDA Margin increased from 9% up to 18%.

 

In 2014 “Avicenna” Clinic was successfully sold to the "Mother and Child" Medical Group. The sum of transaction was equal to 45.5 million US dollars.

"Mother and Child" Medical Group was established in 2010, it is specialized in women`s and children`s health.

In 2012 the group has placed shares in London Stock Exchange. It has attracted 289 million dollars during an IPO. 32, 1 % of securities are in circulation, while 67,9 % belong to “MD Medical Group Investments Plc.», owned by Mark Kurtser, the company`s founder. 17 healthcare organizations in Russia (situated in Moscow, Saint- Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Ufa, Perm, Irkutsk, Samara, Tolyatti) and Ukraine (Kiev) work within the company. Ukrainian department operates as a franchise.

How long does it take to construct a business plan and develop a medical conception?
Usually this stage takes from 2 weeks to 1,5 months. At this stage it is necessary to establish all resources to provide highly-efficient resource utilization. Also we are to answer the most important questions – what building do we have at the moment or what building do we have to construct, how to efficiently supply it with medical equipment, what are the community needs of an area or a city residents, why should we construct precisely this clinic, what equipment are we to provide, and how expensive will the project be and when will it pay off.
Does the price depend on a floor area?
Capital expenses directly depend on the floor area of the clinic being constructed. Cost of installation and construction work is directly correlated to a floor area, while capital expenses for medical equipment supply do not directly depend on a floor area and is mostly correlated with the medical conception of a project and medical services provided.
Do you provide “turnkey” design and construction
